New SunBurn Examples - Learn to Create Scenes in Code!

Hello SunBurn community!

This afternoon we released two new examples for the SunBurn Game Engine - as well as awesome updates to a number of existing examples!

Create Scenes in Code

The two new examples are modified versions of the existing Dojo and Custom Physics examples, which show how to create scenes and games entirely in code (without using the SunBurn Editor).

This is helpful when creating procedural levels, loading from custom level files, and even when spawning objects dynamically.

Other Updates

We've also updated several existing examples with new features and improvements, including:

  • Reflection / Refraction - support for standard transparent materials on reflection / refraction objects
  • Light Mapping - player character can now look in full range of motion (up, down, left, right)
  • Dojo - player character can now look in full range of motion (up, down, left, right)

More on the Way!

Like I mentioned in our last blog, the awesome updates we've released over the past few weeks are only a small fraction of what's to come.  So stay tuned for more!

If you have any questions or comments let us know!

This is really great! Silly question: is it possible to view procedural content in the editor and manually position custom content alongside procedural? For example, could I use procedural methods to build an environment then use the editor to hand-place puzzles/enemies into that environment?

Apologies if this could have been answered by exploring the code examples. I'm in the middle of other project work and won't have time to look deeply into this for a while.

Sweet, nice upgrades to the examples.

...though now my only question is, will we ever see an Ironhammer’s Crucible example with all of the SunBurn features in one uber example? :D

i kinda like having the editor. I got the engine so I don't have to code everything.

Hi guys, thanks!

@Interkarma, absolutely!  SunBurn's editor runs in-game allowing you to interact with the scene, lighting, audio sources, and materials, along-side procedurally added objects, custom rendered code, and more.

@Nate, excellent point - we need to make that one available too. :)

@darkestdays, no problem, SunBurn gives you the flexibility to use the editor, code, or both!

@Frontline, we'll definitely check that out for future examples!  Will check my email, but think I already got back to Sam (yesterday? I think, let me know if not! :).
