I'm looking for a particle engine to integrate with our game, I'm aware of DPSF (http://www.xnaparticles.com/index.php) and Mecury (http://mpe.codeplex.com/) but would like to get some pointers on what works well with SunBurn and if there are any other choices I am missing?

I'm using Mercury largely because indiefreaks is using it in his framework. I noticed that Lucas is writing his own particle engine "photon" as part of Brain 2, I plan to check that out too.

I use DPSF, you don't get the source but the demo example code seemed to have everything I needed so just took the samples from that and modified them. Forum support has been excellent. It just happened to be the first one I tried, I should probably have tried Mercury before deciding.

Hi DSebJ,

DSebJ:

Both DPSF and Mercury work very well.  The developer of DPSF does an excellent job maintaining SunBurn compatibility and makes regular updates to the library.

Mercury's 3D features were implemented by ZMan, so that's a big recommendation right there. :)

Let me know if this helps!

I've been playing with Mecury's editor and it's really good. I really like the idea of using an editor to work this stuff out rather then trying to work it all out in the code. Haven't got to the integration back in to SunBurn bit yet though :-)

I am very interested in your Mercury wrapper implementation in IGF Philippe. Do you have any samples? I got some hazy ideas what needs to be done from reading another thread where you asked John about Content Pipeline.

Merci

I don't have any samples right now except the ones provided in the Ace on Steroids game that you can find on multiple stores. Since I'm really busy with my day job and family, I can't afford any of my spare time in IGF right now but I hope it'll change soon as I'm eager to get back to it and finally have 1.0 released (or even continue working on its next iteration ;)).

I can't remember if you already did but I believe it would be a good dollar investment if you are confident to use IGF in your projects: http://indiefreaks.com/2012/04/18/ace-on-steroids-released/

Thanks for your reply Philippe.

I appreciate your time dilema first hand. Hence my posts are either in the mornings or very late nights.

I have AoS sources but the free ones (I beleive earlier versions which don't have any particles). Agreed - it would be a very good investement.

Hey Philippe,

May I donate via PayPal and get latest sources that way? (Failed to purchase via Market Place & don't wish to register with third parties).

Merci.

Hi Raccoon,

You can go for IndieCity.com option and purchase your game using Paypal there. You'd just register an account to make the actual purchase.

If you're really against the 3rd party registration, send me an email to webmaster@indiefreaks.com and I'll see what I can do for you.

Regards,
